Pumpkin Patch Field Trip
Late September through First Week of November

When fall is in the air, it’s time to enjoy a day on the farm at the Pumpkin Patch Field Trip, the most popular educational program among schools, family groups, scouts, daycare centers and church organizations. Start with a straw-filled, tractor-pulled hayride bumping down the lane past pastures, stables, horses, the greenhouse and pond. Then, the children head to Hunt Club Farm’s new and improved “Pumpkin Play Area,” which includes a giant hay stack! This play area is in the petting farm, where the children can enjoy meeting all of the farm animals. Bring a snack and drink or lunch and enjoy one of the farm’s picnic areas. Finally, it’s off to the pumpkin patch, where the children select their very own pumpkin to take home. Every child will be provided with a bag to hold their pumpkin. No outside bags are permitted. Adults may purchase pumpkins at the farm market. Most groups at the Pumpkin Patch Field Trip plan a 90-minute visit.

Children’s Garden Field Trip
April through June

Hunt Club Farm’s children’s gardening program was developed in accordance with Virginia’s Science and Math SOL guidelines for Pre-K through 3rd Grade, and has been honored with several awards. This hands-on approach to learning will help your students better understand their study of plants and animals.

Your class’s one-hour guided tour includes the following learning stations:
* Life Cycles & Butterfly Garden
* Bee’s Buzz (observational beehive)
* Bull Frog Pond- Tadpoles & Frogs
* Birds recycle so can you!
* Planting Experience- What plants need to grow?
* Where’s the worm?

Points of discussion:
* Benefits of Plants & Animals to our Environment
* Different Habitats and Camouflage for Animals
* How Seeds Travel

Students will be able to plant seeds, see examples of the parts of a plant and discover what plants need to grow. Field trip guides stress the importance of nature and the benefits that plants have on the environment. The students will visit a weather station, worm and bee habitats and see live examples of the life cycles of frogs, birds and butterflies. Every child will receive a peacock feather to remember their experience. The guided program takes approximately one hour. If your time allows, your group is welcome to stay for self-guided play time with the animals and at the playground.
